On April 22, 2010 the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) contacted EPA regarding abandoned drums (approximately 17- 55 gallon steel drums) off of a dirt road (Clarence Brown Road aka Delbert Brown Road) north of the intersection of US Hwy 45 and County Road 20 in Washington County Alabama south of Fruitdale. It was suspected that the drums contained flammable or paint-related solvents or related materials and were not secured. Region 4 dispatched an OSC to assess the drums and determine the next course of action for the drums and their contents.
