The Deland Leasing Drum site houses approximately 220 55-gallon drums, as well as hundreds of other smaller containers. Florida DEP personnel conducted sampling activities at this facility the first week of September 2007. The results of this sampling event revealed that many of the drums at this Site contain hazardous substances. Furthermore, FDEP noted that several of the drums were leaking. In turn, once the sampling results were received by FDEP and they confirmed that hazardous substances were leaking at this facility, they contacted EPA Region 4 and requested EPA's assistance in addressing this facility (October 3, 2007
OSC Russell met with FDEP and received an overview of the incident. ERRS and START were mobilized to the site and an Emergency Response was initiated.
