An explosion at a chemical facility that blends various chemical products resulted in a fire and the collapse of the building. The facility is located in an industrial area near I-10. However, the wind is blowing the smoke plume northward, across I-10, into a residential area. There are concerns that carcinogens were involved in the fire, as well as concerns about run-off. MSDEQ requested air monitoring assistance from the EPA, via the USCG GST. EPA phone duty deployed EPA R1 OSC Webster out of Atlanta and the USCG GST out of Mobile to provide assistance with air monitoring and oversite of the cleanup.
