Current Activities

U.S. EPA OSC Steve Faryan and Weston Solutions Inc. (WSI) START personal, Ben Maradkel commence oversight, while PRP contractor installs soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells.  On 30 October 2002 PRP contractors completed delineating the subsurface contamination.  A total of seven hundred and nineteen samples were collected by the PRP contractors and U.S. EPA contractor collected ten percent split samples.  Once data was validated, reviewed and tabulated, remediation area was determined.  U.S. EPA, Illinois EPA, Village of Lisle and PRP meet once a week to discuss site activities and schedule.


■ Completed delineating the subsurface contamination.

■ Constructed the temporary parking lot.

■ Graded the remediation area and constructed the plenum.

■ Installed catch basin for plenum runoff water.

■ Constructed haul road south of the Lockformer plant.

■ Installed chain link fence and silt fence.

■ Transported and Disposed decontamination and well water off-site.

■ Installation of soil vapor extraction (SVE) wells.


Planned Removal Actions

■ PRP will remediate the surficial silty clay till and fill in Area 1 and 2 with Electrical Resistive Heating (ERH) technology.

■ PRP will remediate the mass waste sand and gravel in Area 1 and 2 with SVE technology.


Next Steps

■ Continue to install SVE wells.

■ Solve run-off problem in temporary parking lot (TBD e.g. catch basin)

■ Cut into concrete floor inside plant to install SVE wells.

■ Install equipment and process piping to the SVE wells.

■ Construct storage building.

■ Install electrodes and vapor wells for ERH.

■ Hookup vapor/air/water piping (ERH).

■ Generate confirmation sampling plan.

■ Transport and Dispose soil cuttings and decontamination water off-site.
