Current Activities

U.S. EPA OSC Steve Faryan and Weston Solutions Inc. (WSI) START personal conduct oversight, while PRP contractor installs electrodes, vapor recovery wells and temperature probes for the Electrical Resistive Heating (ERH) technology.  OSC and START have also been conducting oversight during the SVE piping and annexation, construction of the building addition, sampling activities for disposal and transportation and disposal of the soil cuttings.


■ On 10 February 2003, Lockformer contractors started installing the ERH electrodes.  Installation of electrodes in subarea 2A , 2B, 1D, 1E, 1F and 1C are completed.  A total of one hundred fourty-four electrodes have been installed.

■ On 28 February 2003, meeting was held at the village to discuss site status, upcoming tasks, confirmation sampling and pending reports/plans/data.  A walk-through of the site was conducted for the Fire and Police Department.

■ On 17 March 2003, Lockformer contractors started piping and annexing the SVE wells.

■ On 18 March 2003, Lockformer contractors started installing vapor recovery wells around the perimeter of the heating area in area 1 and 2.  All twenty-four wells have been installed.

■ On 20 March 2003, Lockformer contractors started installing temperature probes in area 1 and 2.  A total of eleven have been installed.

■ On 24 March 2003, meeting was held at Lockformer to discuss site status and upcoming tasks.

■ On 25 March 2003, Lockformer contractors extended the gravel road to the building addtion.

■ On 27 March 2003, a Public Availability Session was held at the village.

■ OSC Faryan meet with the Village Board of Directors to discuss site status and upcoming tasks.

■ Sampled excavated soil stock piles for disposal.

■ Construction of the building addition continues.  Over-head doors, fire sprinklers, roof and some plumbing have been installed.

■ Transported and Disposed soil cuttings and asphalt off-site.


Planned Removal Actions

■ PRP will remediate the surficial silty clay till and fill in Area 1, 2 and former degreaser pit area  with Electrical Resistive Heating (ERH) technology.

■ PRP will remediate the mass waste sand and gravel in Area 1 and 2 with SVE technology.


Next Steps

■ Continue installing electrodes and temperature probes. Sixty-eight electrodes and eleven temperature probes need to be installed.

■ Continue installing equipment and process piping to the SVE wells.

■ Continue construction of the building addition.

■ Hookup vapor/air/water piping (ERH).

■ Review and Approve confirmation sampling plan.

■ Transport and Dispose soil cuttings and decontamination water off-site.

■ Review and Approve the Operational Plan, Contingency Plan and Health and Safety Plan.
