The Kriger Battery removal site is located in Greenwood, Caddo Parish, Louisiana on commercial/industrial zoned property. The site is a former battery reclamation facility that operated between 1972 and 1982 and consisted of a processing building, acid neutralization pit, and hammer mill area. Historical sampling conducted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ)shows on-site lead concentrations as high as 112,660 mg/kg. Elevated lead concentrations have been located off-site on adjoining properties and drainage paths.

The transportation and disposal of treated material was initiated during this reporting period, accounting for an approximate volume of 1,280 cubic yards of generated waste transported off site. Excavations on the site's western portion were initiated, accounting for approximately 35 cubic yards of excavated soils. Contaminated sediments from the on site creek were removed, accounting for approximately 75 cubic yards of excavated sediments. Also removed from the creek were concrete culverts, which were subsequently broken up and incorporated with previously staged waste.

Complete excavation of EPA grids on the western portion of the site by 06/13/2009. Begin treatment of remaining excavated soils with specialized chemical application.

Initiate second round of transportation and disposal of waste generated from treatment operations upon receipt of supporting non-hazardous analytical results.
