Current Activities

A magnetometer survey was conducted in a limited area around the location where drums were discovered during the week of March 23, 2009 to determine potential locations of additional drums. The magnetometer survey detected only one anomaly for buried metal, which was determined during excavation to be miscellaneous, small pieces of metal.

During the week April 13, 2009, subsurface sampling was conducted within the area of the magnetometer survey to assess extent of PCB contamination. No PCB's were detected from the subsurface samples. Samples were analyzed using the EPA Region 1 mobile laboratory.

EPA mobilized to the site during the week of May 4, 2009 to commence excavation activities within the area where drums were previously discovered and sent for disposal. Site preparation included the removal of trees location within the area of contamination. The EPA Region I Mobile Lab was on site for post-excavation sampling to ensure the removal of contaminated soils.

Contaminated soils have been excavated and sent for disposal during the week of June 8, 2009.

Final activities include backfilling and site restoration.

Planned Removal Actions

Site activities are scheduled for completion during the week of June 22, 2009.
