The Kriger Battery removal site is located in Greenwood, Caddo Parish, Louisiana on commercial/industrial zoned property. The site is a former battery reclamation facility that operated between 1972 and 1982 and consisted of a processing building, acid neutralization pit, and hammer mill area. Historical sampling conducted by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ)shows on-site lead concentrations as high as 112,660 mg/kg. Elevated lead concentrations have been located off-site on adjoining properties and drainage paths.

EPA Removal: Completed second round of T&D of EPA stockpiled soils. All EPA treated waste, approximately 2,340 cubic yards, has been shipped off site, thus concluding EPA T&D operations and excavation operations. Construction of a haul road from the pad to the eastern side of the site was continued to facilitate backfilling and restoration operations.
LDEQ Removal: LDEQ sponsored removal actions were continued. This included excavations on the site's eastern and western portions, accounting for approximately 403.9 cubic yards of excavated soils, totalling approximately 450.02 cubic yards of in situ LDEQ soils excavated. Excavated soils were staged in an intermediate stockpile, and then transferred to the site's western area adjacent to the pad for treatment. Treatment of LDEQ excavated soils was initiated, accounting for approximately 79.02 cubic yards of treated soil. Treated soil was stockpiled separately and staged for T&D. LDEQ investigated the impoundment area by means of test pits to determine the appropriate extent of excavation.
EPA Removal: Complete site restoration operations as site conditions permit.
LDEQ Removal: Continue excavation of LDEQ sponsored grids on the eastern and western portions of the site. Continue treatment of excavated soil. Stage all treated soil in preparation for T&D operation.
LDEQ Removal: Complete LDEQ sponsored removal action and restore site.
