From March 4-April 17, 2009, EPA completed the process of searching through general debris in the basement to identify the absence/presence of hazardous materials.  ERRS personnel collected, staged and sampled 5-gallon pails that were spread throughout the basement of the warehouse.  Approximately 190 pails were sampled and hazard categorized (HazCat) and the results were entered into a database.  Additionally, small containers collected throughout the site went through a HazCat process and were then placed into appropriate waste streams for disposal.  Transportation & disposal (T & D) coordinators concentrated on developing waste profiles. Disposal of paracril (synthetic nitrile) for solidification began, along with paint solids, acid pails, flammable liquids and solids were also sent off-site for disposal.

From April 17-June 8, 2009, the Site was shut-down due to funding issues.

From June 8-15, 2009, EPA completed final disposal, performed required building decontamination, and performed a Site walk-through with the City of Toledo-Division of Environmental Services.

All wastes on-site were sampled, field categorized (via HazCat procedures), sorted, and disposed at RCRA approved facilities.  The following materials were removed from the Site during the Removal Action:  350 tons of contaminated construction/general debris; 120 cubic yards of RCRA empty containers; 120 cubic yards and 20 tons of non-hazardous inert solids; 278 cubic yards of non-hazardous liquid waste; 80 yards of solids, dyes and floor sweepings; 23,700 gallons and 26,300 pounds of waste flammable liquids; 1,755 gallons and 4,800 pounds of non-DOT and non-RCRA regulated materials; 5,920 pounds of corrosive liquids; 20 cubic yards of paracril and floor sludge sweepings; 3,600 pounds of liquid hazardous waste; 20 cubic yards of roofing tar containing asbestos (non-friable); 60 pounds of ammonia solutions; 55 pounds of flammable aerosols; 20 pounds of elemental mercury; 80 pounds of solid toxic waste (lead/mercury debris); 80 pounds of hydrofluoric acid (includes 55 gallon drum weight utilized as secondary container); and 20 pounds of ethylene oxide (See Disposition of Waste Summary for complete details).

Toledo Environmental Services performed a Site Walkthrough on June 15, 2009 and will notify the Toledo Building Inspector and Toledo Fire Department about the status of the buidling.

Key to the building were turned back to the owner (Mr. Osswald).
