Site Description

EPA Reg 4 ERRB in conjunction with NC DENR, coordinated a sampling event of several potentially contaminated water wells around the Charlotte, North Carolina area. Two wells along Robinwood Drive showed elevated levels of PCE (tetrachloroethylene) 8.5 and 40 ug/l. OSC Gaughan contacted the two residents and one resident had previously installed a carbon filtration system to remove known contaminants. Based on the elevated levels at 5005 Robinwood Drive and evidence that levels had been increasing over the last four years and approaching 10.0 ug/l, a carbon filtration system was installed. The closest municipal water supply was approximately one mile from the area.

Current Activities

Based on the elevated levels of PCE (tetrachloroethylene) at 5005 Robinwood, EPA Reg 4 decided to sample the remaining five homes along Robinwood Drive. The additional homes were found to have levels of PCE below 0.5 ug/l (ppb). Removal action level for PCE is 12.0 ug/l. No further actions were deemed necessary.
