1.1.2 Site Description

The facility is located in a commercial area of Dalton, Georgia.

1.1.2.1 Location

Site address is 426 South Hamilton Street, Dalton, Georgia.

1.1.2.2 Description of Threat

The facility experienced an ammonia release from a refrigerated warehouse. The facility evacuated employees and Dalton Fire Department responded.  The release appears to have been caused by operation error.  It is unclear how much ammonia was released.

1.1.3 Preliminary Removal Assessment/Removal Site Inspection Results

Dalton Fire Department was on scene at the site.  They were in the process of venting the facility and monitoring the surrounding area of the facility.  Employees had already evacuated from the facility.  The site was secured and roads leading to the facility were blocked off.

    2.1.1 Narrative

Anhydrous ammonia was released in the facility which led to an evacuation of the building.  It is believed to have been caused by operational error.  There were no reports of injuries.  The evacuation ended by the end of the day.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date

PRP, Dalton Fire Department, and EPA collaborated at the scene.  GAEPD was updated periodically.  EPA left the scene after the Dalton Fire Department was able to clear the first floor of the building.
