On 13JUL04, ADEM reported that a former metal finishing facility had a fire. Once the fire was put out, the Athens Fire Dept and ADEM discovered various drums in the facility. Drums that were not consumed in the fire had corrosive and flammable markings. ADEM requested our assistance to assess the situation

OSC Williamson and START personnel were dispatched to the site. Samples were taken and sent for laboratory analysis. OSC Williamson spoke by phone with the owner of the facility and the owner is willing to perform the clean up.

OSC Williamson and ADEM will continue to work with the owner pertaining to the clean up. ADEM will take the lead.
