Site Description

Pre-deployment of air surveillance and response resources for the Pennsylvania 500 NASCAR Race.

Current Activities

EPA, PADEP, Monroe County EOS are assisting Pocono Raceway and NASCAR by predeploying to the racetrack to:

.  reduce response time for a team to respond to a hazardous substance incident

.  perform air monitoring surveillance for chemical and radiological agents carried into the raceway from outside sources before and during the race

.  perform chemical and radiological agent sweeps in the garage, paddock, pit, and grandstand areas prior to each trials period and race.

.  perform air analysis, either real time or bag sample using the Trace Atmosphere Gas Analyzer, GCMS, and other remote sensing equipment.

Key Issues

.  No confirmed air readings requiring response action during this period.

.  Rain and fog have delayed track operations for time trials on 7/30/04.
