2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On August 15, 2011, Midwest hauled off 8 loads (47,000 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to United Waste Water Inc.'s facility in Cincinnati, OH and 3 loads (15,500 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to Clean Water Limited's Cherokee Drive Facility in Dayton, OH.
- Approximately 0.5” of rain fell at the Site on Saturday night. The rain did not impact the storm sewers, and no water escaped the Site.
- Midwest began removing sludge from Tank 14. The sludge was moved to vac boxes.
- Midwest pumped liquid from the east million gallon bunker tank into the west million gallon bunker tank with a diaphragm pump.
On August 16, 2011, Midwest hauled off 4 loads (24,000 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to United Waste Water Inc.'s facility in Cincinnati, OH and 3 loads (15,500 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to Clean'Water Limited's Cherokee Drive Facility in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued removing sludge from Tank 14 and started removing sludge from Tank 15. The sludge was moved to vac boxes and the solidification pits.
- Midwest pumped liquid from the east million gallon bunker tank into the west million gallon bunker tank with a diaphragm pump.
- TriHydro treated approximately 7,000 gallons of water.
- TriHydro collected air sample BTIntAIR20110816 from the interior of the west million gallon bunker tank.
- START agitated the sludge for approximately 5 minutes before sampling.
- The sample was collected from the opening with the highest VOC reading on a PID (326 ppm).
- A tube was dropped approximately 2’ into the opening for the sample collection.
On August 17, 2011, Midwest hauled off 8 loads (46,875 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to United Waste Water Inc.'s facility in Cincinnati, OH and 3 loads (15,600 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to Clean Water Limited's Cherokee Drive Facility in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest removed sludge from Tanks 12 and 13. The sludge was moved to vac boxes and the solidification pits.
- Midwest set up the 3d nozzle in Tanks 14 and 15.
- Midwest pumped liquid from the east million gallon bunker tank to the west million gallon bunker tank.
- TriHydro treated approximately 2,500 gallons of water.
On August 18, 2011, Midwest hauled off 7 loads (41,466 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to United Waste Water Inc.'s facility in Cincinnati, OH and 3 loads (15,600 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to Clean Water Limited's Cherokee Drive Facility in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued to remove sludge from Tanks 12 and 13. The sludge was moved to vac boxes and the solidification pits.
- Midwest started powerwashing the interior of Tanks 14 and 15 with a 3d nozzle.
- Midwest mobilized (9) 20 yd3 roll off boxes to store and transport sludge solidified with wood pulp. The sludge previously solidified by ESI with fly ash was placed in (6) roll off boxes, and all but one of the roll off boxes were landfilled at Southside Landfill in Indianapolis. The remaining fly ash roll off box will be shipped with the wood pulp roll off boxes.
- TriHydro worked on constructing treated water discharge plumbing.
On August 19, 2011, Midwest hauled off 4 loads (23,508 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to United Waste Water Inc.'s facility in Cincinnati, OH and 3 loads (15,500 gal) of oily water from the access pit/control structure to Clean Water Limited's Cherokee Drive Facility in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest began powerwashing the interior of Tanks 12 and 13 with a 3d nozzle.

2.2.1 Anticipated Activities
- Pilot test for bunker tank removal activities to take place during the week of August 22, 2011.
2.2.1.1 Planned Response Activities
None
2.2.1.2 Next Steps
US EPA will provide oversight of PRP Group removal activities.
Use decontaminated Tank 6 for storm water storage.
2.2.2 Issues
Starting in Mid-July, the weather became very hot and humid, and special care was taken to make sure that people working outside are well hydrated and taking adequate breaks.
Groundwater infiltration is suspected in the sanitary sewer system on Site. Trihydro is investigating potential options for mitigating infiltration.
Standing water has been observed in several locations around the site. Warmer weather can lead to mosquito breeding in standing water. EPA has requested that Trihydro address all standing water on site as soon as possible.
Ongoing management of wildlife at the site due to nearby ecosystems.
In previous POLREPs an incorrect name was used when referring to the oily water disposal facility. The correct name should be United Waste Water, Inc. not United Water.
