2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On October 17, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,000 gal) of oily water from cleaning the primary separator pit to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (12) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest had (4) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued cleaning the primary separator pit. Midwest began jetting process pipelines leading to the primary separator pit.
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building. Midwest began removing filter sands from three sand filters in the solids building and storing the material in vacuum boxes.
- Midwest pumped sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued cleaning the truck wash bay and unloading area in the unloading building.
- Trihydro treated stormwater with the GAC system.
- Trihydro requested visual inspection of the northeast sludge tank in the solids building. The tank is called “Tank 22” in EPA documents but is labeled Tank 24. There were no visible product residues after the cleaning process. The condition of the tank was documented with two photos of the interior.
On October 18, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,000 gal) of oily water from cleaning the primary separator pit to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued cleaning the primary separator pit.
- Midwest continued jetting process pipelines leading to the primary separator pit.
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Midwest continued removing filter sands from three sand filters in the solids building and storing the material in vacuum boxes.
- Trihydro treated stormwater with the GAC system.
- Steve Fleming (Safety Kleen), Bob Schueptee (Safety Kleen), and George Mathes (Trihydro) were on site for a site walk and meetings with on site personnel.
On October 19, 2011, Midwest hauled off 7 loads (39,300 gal) of oily water from manway MH-37 and the primary separator pit. Midwest hauled 5 loads (28,200 gal) to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH. Midwest hauled 2 loads (11,100 gal) to the Clean Water Limited Cherokee Drive facility in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (4) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest received (2) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest began cleaning the crack oil containment (south of the solids building).
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Trihydro treated stormwater with the GAC system.
- Trihydro requested visual inspection of Tank 36, Tank 38, sand filter 1, sand filter 2, and sand filter 3. There was no visible product on the floors or walls of the interior of any of the tanks. The condition was documented with two photos of each tank.
- George Mathes (Trihydro) was on site for a site walk and meetings with on site personnel.
On October 20, 2011, Midwest hauled off 5 loads (28,200 gal) of oily water from the primary separator pit, the west solidification pit, and manway MH-37 to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (5) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest hauled off (3) 25 cyd vac boxes of unsolidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest received (2) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued cleaning the crack oil containment (south of the solids building).
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Trihydro requested visual inspection of sludge tank 23 (labeled 22 on the tank, the southeasternmost of the large tanks in the solids building.) There was no visible product on the floor or walls of the interior of the tank. The condition was documented with two photos of the interior of the tank.
- Trihydro treated stormwater with the GAC system.
- Trihydro discharged approximately 26,500 gal of twice treated water to Oil Creek.
On October 21, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from manway MH-19 to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest received (2) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued cleaning the crack oil containment (south of the solids building).
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Midwest started and completed cleaning Tank 50.
- Current depth to sludge in the bunker tanks were measured: 11’5” – west million gallon bunker tank; 6’5” – east million gallon bunker tank.
- Trihydro requested visual inspection of Tank 50 (in the Tank 51 containment), Tank 34, and Tank 35. There was no visible product on the floor or walls of the interior of Tank 50. The condition was documented with two photos of the interior of the tank. There was visible product on the walls of Tanks 34 and 35. Midwest will continue cleaning and request inspection at a later date.
- Trihydro treated stormwater with the GAC system.
- Trihydro discharged 5,859 gal of twice treated water to Oil Creek.
