2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On October 24, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from cleaning the primary separator pit to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Midwest attempted to use a vac truck to assist with moving viscous sludge out of the east million gallon bunker tank. The attempt was unsuccessful. Midwest will try some larger fittings.
- Midwest started removing acid waste from Tank 37. They are storing the removed acid in totes, and they believe that they can find a recycler to take the waste.
- TriHydro requested visual inspection of Tanks 34 and 33. There was no visible product on the floor or walls of the interior of either tank. The condition was documented with two photos of the interior of the tank.
On October 25, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from cleaning the primary separator pit to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (9) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest pumped sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Personnel from Roger Ward Engineering were on site surveying for the final site stormwater plan.
On October 26, 2011, Midwest hauled off 2 loads (12,400 gal) of oily water from cleaning the primary separator pit to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (10) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest received (3) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Per Trihydro, it is anticipated that Focus Engineering will be on site beginning the week of 10/31/2011, to begin Tank 51 cleaning activities. The timeframe estimate for Tank 51 cleaning is currently 5 weeks.Midwest continued heat pressure washing sludge tanks in the solids building.
- Midwest finished heat pressure washing the two west sludge tanks in the solids building (TK-21 & TK-24). There was no visible product on the floor or walls of the interior of either tank. The condition was documented with two photos of the interior of the tank.
- Midwest completed cleaning sludge tanks in the Solids Building.
- Midwest continued sludge solidifying activities in the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued cleaning activities in the south chamber of the primary separator pit.
- Trihydro discharged approximately 21,500 gal of treated water to Oil Creek.
On October 27, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from tanks in the dehydration building and the northeast area to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (11) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Focus Engineering personnel were on site collecting a Tank 51 containment stormwater sample for City of Indianapolis SDA renewal for discharge to the sanitary sewer.
- Midwest began cleaning activities in the elevated level of the solids building.
- Midwest continued sludge solidifying activities in the solidification pits.
- Trihydro submitted the Bunker Tank Concrete Roof Removal JSA to U.S. EPA/START for review. Bunker tank roof removal activities began with Midwest saw-cutting around and removing the metal roof opening on the northwest side of the west million gallon bunker tank.
- Trihydro discharged approximately 27,725 gal of treated water to Oil Creek.
On October 28, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from cleaning the primary separator pit to to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest received (1) 50,000 pound load of wood pulp solidification agent delivered from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest continued sludge solidifying activities in the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued cleaning activities in the elevated level of the solids building.
- Midwest continued cleaning activities in the south chamber of the primary separator pit.
The wood pulp solidification material is a reclaimed/recycled product. As of October 28, 2011, approximately 5,400,000 pounds had been used to solidify waste sludge.
