2.1.2 Response Actions to Date
On November 7, 2011, Midwest hauled off 7 loads (39,639 gal) of oily water from the concrete access pit, manway MH-17, and manway MH-23: 5 loads (28,139 gal) to the United Waste Water Inc. facility in Cincinnati, OH and 2 loads (11,500 gal) to Clean Water Limited’s Cherokee Drive facility in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest hauled out 3,142 gallons of D002 caustic waste to Environmental Enterprises Inc. in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest opened larger roof openings on the north end of the west million gallon bunker tank with a track hoe.
- Midwest completed cleaning in the Unloading Building.
- Midwest completed cleaning the centrifuge platform area.
- Midwest used a vac truck to collect and transport sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest began solidification with lime solidification media using a 20% mixture.
- AVS began cleaning process pipelines near the DAF tanks.
- TriHydro requested visual inspection of the centrifuge platform and the Unloading Building. There was no visible product on the pavement or platform of the centrifuge platform. There was no visible product on the floors or beneath the grates in the Unloading Building. The condition was documented with two photos of each area.
On November 8, 2011, Midwest hauled off 1 load (6,200 gal) of oily water from the concrete access pit to United Waste Water Inc.’s facility in Cincinnati, OH.
- Midwest hauled off (11) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest continued opening larger roof openings on the north end of the west million gallon bunker tank with a track hoe.
- Midwest used a vac truck to collect and transport sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued solidification with lime solidification media.
- AVS continued cleaning process pipelines near the Used Oil and Dehydration Building areas.
- TriHydro requested visual inspection of the primary separator pit. There was no visible product on the walls, grates, or bottom of the pit. The condition was documented with two photos of the pit.
On November 9, 2011, Midwest hauled off (10) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest received (2) 25 ton loads of sawdust solidification media from Burton Lumber Co Inc. in Lexington, IN and Koetter & Smith Inc. in Borden, IN.
- Midwest solidified sludge in the west million gallon bunker tank with the long reach excavator and sawdust solidification media.
- Midwest started cleaning tank CTK3 in the Dehydration Building.
- Midwest continued cleaning the crack oil containment.
- Midwest used a vac truck to collect and transport sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued solidification in the solidification pits with saw dust solidification media.
- Midwest moved the GAC components into the Dehydration Building and built an insulated structure to house the GAC system.
- AVS continued cleaning process pipe runs near the Used Oil and Dehydration Building areas.
- TriHydro constructed an insulated shed inside of the Dehydration Building to house the GAC system as a means of winterization.
On November 10, 2011, Midwest hauled off (11) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest received (4) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest received (2) 25 ton loads of sawdust solidification media from Burton Lumber Co Inc. in Lexington, IN and Koetter & Smith Inc. in Borden, IN.
- Midwest received (1) 20 ton load of lime solidification media from Mintec.
- Midwest solidified sludge in the west million gallon bunker tank with the long reach excavator and sawdust solidification media.
- Midwest completed cleaning tank CTK3 in the Dehydration Building.
- Midwest started and completed cleaning tank CTK2 in the Dehydration Building.
- Midwest continued cleaning the crack oil containment.
- Midwest used a vac truck to collect and transport sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued solidification in the solidification pits with saw dust, lime, and wood pulp solidification media.
- AVS continued cleaning process pipe runs near the frybasket.
- TriHydro had an electrician on site to supply electricity to the GAC winterization shed.
- TriHydro completed the construction of the GAC winterization shed by installing a space heater and lighting.
- TriHydro requested visual inspection of CTK2 and CTK3 in the Dehydration Building. There was no visible product on the walls or floors of either tank. Two photos of each tank were taken to document the condition at the time of inspection.
On November 11, 2011, Midwest hauled off (10) 20 cyd roll-off boxes of solidified sludge to Southside Landfill in Indianapolis, IN.
- Midwest received (2) 50,000 pound loads of wood pulp solidification media from Appleton Papers, Inc. in Dayton, OH.
- Midwest received (2) 25 ton loads of sawdust solidification media from Burton Lumber Co Inc. in Lexington, IN.
- Midwest received (2) 20 ton loads of lime solidification media from Mintec.
- Midwest solidified sludge in the west million gallon bunker tank with the long reach excavator and sawdust solidification media.
- Midwest continued cleaning the crack oil containment.
- Midwest used a vac truck to collect and transport sludge from the east million gallon bunker tank to the solidification pits.
- Midwest continued solidification in the solidification pits with saw dust, lime, and wood pulp solidification media.
- Midwest demobilized two rented vac boxes.
- AVS continued cleaning process pipelines within the Acid containment and Solidification Building.
- Trihydro installed discharge piping from the GAC system to Oil Creek.
The wood pulp and sawdust solidification materials are reclaimed/recycled products. As of November 11, 2011, approximately 6,300,000 pounds of wood pulp solidification media, 150 tons of sawdust solidification media, and 60 tons of lime solidification media had been used to solidify waste sludge.
