Current Activities

The segregation of the yard into contaminated and non-contaminated items is continuing.  The ERRS are preparing lots for assessment by the START. The START is assessing all items of each lot for gamma radiation to determine the presence of radium gauges and a statistical based aliquot of each lot for fixed and removeable alpha radiation.  NURGEG 1.86 is being used as the action level for the release of materials from the site.

The START is continuing air survelliance.  The air surveillance program consists of the collection of air samples for radioactive particulates (alpha and beta radiation), perimeter surveys for gamma radiation, environmental dosimeters and radon sampling.  The environmental dosimeters and radon sampling is conducted passively on a 24-hour basis.   At no time has the action level of 100 mRem/year been exceeded.

EPA issued a CERCLA 106 Unilaterial Administrative Order to the business and land owner.  The PRPs have requested a compliance conference pursuant to the Order.  The compliance conference is expected to occur in early October 2004.
