Site Description

The incident involves an ongoing discharge of crude oil into Boyd’s Creek and the Barren River Lake which is a navigable waterway. This ongoing removal action was continued under an Interagency Agreement between EPA Region 4 and the Tennessee Valley Authority. Funding was obtained under the OSC’s OPA authority and through support from the National Pollution Fund Center in December, 2008.

Current Activities

TVA continued conducting monthly site visits to the Boyds Creek Site in December 2011 and January 2012.  Approximately 2,165 gallons of oil were collected from the collection sump.  Based on historical data over the past few years it appears that these large amounts of oil normally come in the November  to January timeframe.  All routine checks of the collection system were performed and no issues were noted.  The local oil vendor, Barrett Oil, met TVA on site and hauled the crude oil from storage.
