2.1.2 Response Actions to Date

On April 3, 2012, Trihydro installed "No Trespassing" and "24-hour contact" signs around the perimeter of the Site.

No one was on site from April 4, 2012 through April 8, 2012.

On April 6, 2012, Trihydro submitted validated Tank 51 decontamination verification wipe sapmling results to US EPA.
      • All results were non-detect for PCB's.

On April 9, 2012, Trihydro returned to the Site.

      • Tom Melvin of TM Salvage was on site to discuss potentially scrapping metal at the Site other than Tank 51 with Trihydro.

On April 10, 2012, Trihydro discharged approximately 8,900 of GAC system treated stormwater to Oil Creek.

      • TM Salvage hauled off (1) 30cyd roll-off box of scrap metal.
      • US EPA issued an email verifying the successful decontamination of Tank 51 and clearing it for reuse or dismantling as unregulated scrap metal.

On April 11, 2012, Trihydro discharged approximately 7,000 of GAC system treated stormwater to Oil Creek.

      • Trihydro received analytical results for (4) Tank 51 secondary containment water PCB samples.
      • The laboratory used EPA method 608 and achieved a 0.2 ug/L detection limit
      • All results were non-detect.
      • The results were presented to US EPA and IDEM.
      • IDEM issued a letter clearing the PRP Group to discharge Tank 51 secondary containment water into the southwest area and eventually be treated by the GAC system and discharged to Oil Creek.
      • Tom Melvin of TM Salvage was on site to begin planning and setup for Tank 51 dismantling.
      • An additional, small portion of the west bunker tank wall fell into the west bunker tank.
The wood pulp and sawdust solidification materials are reclaimed/recycled products.  As of April 11, 2012, approximately 15,250,000 pounds of wood pulp solidification media and 1,800 tons of sawdust solidification media have been used to solidify sludge.  Additionally, 880 tons of lime solidification media and 45 tons of TerraBond solidification media had been used to solidify waste sludge.

As of April 11, 2,259 tons of sand and 1,400 tons of limestone gravel had been placed into the east and west bunker tanks to access the remaining solidified sludge.
