Rail Road tracks south of 7 Mile, east of I-75, Detroit, Michigan.
|
|
At approximately 1030 hours, a Canadian National Railroad (CNR) train derailed. Four of the cars carrying methanol jumped the track and were damaged. The Detroit Fire Department's IC ordered a precautionary evacuation. U.S. EPA responded to assist. Once on site, U.S. EPA coordinated with the Federal Railroad Administration and the Detroit IC.
During an assessment by HazMat teams, only one of the cars was found to be leaking/dripping. It is estimated less than 1-gallon of methanol was released. Air monitoring did not detect elevated levels and the evacuation was lifted.
CNR hired Hulcher Services to remove the damaged cars and restore the train tracks.
U.S. EPA has demobed from the site.
