A 94 car train heading south, derailed along mile post 157 and 159, in Parkers Prairie, MN.

14 rail cars containing heavy crude oil derailed due to unknown causes.

    2.1.1 Narrative

An initial report estimated the amount of crude released as 26,000 gallons.  Later CP updated the estimate based on recovery, to be more around 15,000 gallons.

2.1.2 Response Actions to Date


Upon EPA's arrival on site the day of the incident, the PRPs contractors were already pumping the derailed cars content into tanker trucks.  Also, there were contractors repairing the damaged track.  The MPCA responder was on the scene.  The MPCA will continue the oversight, and ensure impacted soils are properly handled.
