The Site is located at 17332 Shields Street in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan, 48212.  The Site is bordered to the east and west by light industries, to the south by a residential area, and to the north by a correctional facility and railroad tracks.  A main production building, three storage buildings, an office/laboratory building, and a shed occupy the Site.

On October 18, 2004, drums containing fuel blends were consolidated.  The crew continued to clean and cut the totes. CERCLA compliance of the selected disposal facilities was checked. Off-site disposal of the hazardous wastes was awarded to Chemtron and Clean Harbors disposal facilities.

On October 19, 2004, consolidation of  fuel blends continued.

On October 20, 2004, consolidation of fuel blends continued and consolidation of non-hazardous solids began. One roll-off was mobilized to site.

On October 21, 2004, consolidation of non-hazardous solids continued.

On October 22, 2004, samples of floor debris were collected and haz-catted. Waste profiles and other disposal paperwork was completed. Drums of hazardous solids were over-packed for off-site disposal due to the unstable nature of the existing drums.  One on-site storage building was decontaminated.

On October 23, 2004, two additional storage buildings were decontaminated. Drum over-packing and consolidation continued.

On October 24, 2004, no on-site activities occurred.

On October 25, 2004, off-site disposal of hazardous wastes was initiated. Two vacuum trucks mobilized to site to transport and dispose of the fuel blends and non-hazardous liquids. Steel pipes leading into the ground were observed and investigated by U.S. EPA. The pipes are apparently part of a tank closure that occurred at the property according to records on file with the state.

On October 26, 2004, disposal continued. A box truck was utilized for the disposal of drums.  Drummed wastes included acids, bases, and hazardous solids. Additional information was obtained to confirm that all USTs on site had been either removed or properly closed.

On October 27, 2004, consolidation of non-hazardous solids continued. On-site storage containers (ASTs and totes) were rendered unusable.

On October 28, 2004, off-site disposal of hazardous wastes continued.  The remaining drummed waste was transported off-site for disposal. Non-hazardous solids consolidation continued.

On October 29, 2004 disposal continued. A vacuum truck transported the remaining non-hazardous liquids off-site for disposal.

On October 30 and 31, 2004, no on site activities occurred.

On November 1, 2004, three personnel, two trucks, and a drum crusher demobilized from site. A roll-off of RCRA empty containers were transported off-site for disposal.

On November 2, 2004, the two remaining roll-offs of non-hazardous solids were transported to disposal facility. All remaining personnel and equipment demobilized from site.
