On 30JAN05 a bleed-off line was left on filling and overflowing a sump with an estimated 15 barrels of crude oil from the storage system at the ZR Umbarger Tank Battery in Heidelberg, MS. This facility is operated by Denbury Resources.
Denbury personnel and contract support initiated response activities including recovery of pooled oil with a vacuum truck, excavating saturated soil with an excavator, applying absorbent materials to spilled crude, and establishing a containment pond to capture/filter stormwater runoff. Mississippi DEQ and EPA conducted oversight of emergency response activity.
The facility intends to continue containment measures and properly treat/dispose saturated soil.
Mississsippi DEQ will oversight completion of response measures.
Facility conducted appropriate response actions; however, heavy rains caused some oil to escape containment and enter waters of the United States.
