Site Description

The Site consists of a two-story cinder block constructed structure with an apartment on the 2nd floor (main building) and a garage on a 0.4 acre parcel of land.  The Site operated as a legally grandfathered chrome plating and stripping business in a residentially zoned area.  The closest house is 40-50 feet from the rear of the building.  The business failed and there are abandoned vats, drums and hazardous substances. The facility remains inactive, and without fire protection. The property is not fenced and is accessible to the public.

Current Activities

On February 25, 2005 EPA and their Emergency Rapid Response Services (ERRS) contractor conducted a site walk. The contractor is currently preparing to mobilize with equipment. The potentially responsible party is contributing to the cleanup by removing old vehicles and non-hazardous materials.

Planned Removal Actions

-Upon mobilization, delineate areas where the hazardous substances are located;

-Conduct sampling and analytical activities to characterize the nature and extent of hazardous substances;

-Clean areas of contamination found on floors, soil and in plating baths;

-Repackage all hazardous substances and cleanup-derived waste streams as necessary and ship them off-site for disposal at EPA-approved disposal facilities;

-Conduct perimeter air monitoring, as necessary, during substance handling activities; and

-Provide Site security as needed.

Next Steps

On March 7, 2005 EPA and ERRS will mobilize to the Site with equipment and a small crew.
