Current Activities

The cleanup contractor is mobilizing to the Site.  Pangea Group, of St. Louis, MO is the prime contractor under an IAG with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  They are currently hiring and training local workforce. Their Rad Techs, safety personnel, and site management are establishing work areas, acquiring equipment, setting up and calibrating equipment, and otherwise preparing for the removal action.

Planned Removal Actions

All sources will be removed and disposed of at waste facilities or reused at secured facilities.  The contaminated material will either be decontaminated or treated and then disposed of offsite.  The building will be disassembled and the pad demolished as it is contaminated.  Two septic tanks, known to be contaminated, will be removed as well as some contaminated soil.

Next Steps

The contractor is expected to complete the training of the crews and begin work inside the hotzone on Monday, April 16.

Key Issues

Pangea is a small disadvantaged contractor (8(a)) and is working for EPA Region 6 for the first time.  The contract type is a firm fixed price, which offers many advantages to the Agency as far as contractor oversight issues.
