Current Activities

FOSC met with private farmer, William Sprye, on April 19, 2005 to discuss his activities specific to the firehole site and his concerns regarding the site warning signs.  Mr. Sprye has been farming this site for over 30 years under a lease agreement with the property owner.  Mr. Sprye has witnessed numerous metal objects throughout the area but does not recall any actual detonation or blown tire, due to a detonation, of the ordnance material scattered throughout the area.  Mr. Sprye sells all but one crop to various mills for human food consumption.  His corn crop is sold to mills which sell for animal feedstock.  Mr. Sprye has agreed to abide by the FOSC's request to stay off the property until an EM-61 metal survey is completed.

The EM-61 geophysical survey is scheduled to be completed during the week of May 11,2005.  This will provide specific information regarding the scattered ordnance material throughout the 30 acre plus firehole area.  The survey will provide locations of metal and metal fragments which will be plotted with GPS coordinates for a detailed map.

FOSC continues to work and coordinate with EPA Region III federal facilities, remedial program and regional counsel. In addition MDE voluntary cleanup program (VCP) and site cleanup personnel are a part of this overall action.

Site HASP to be completed prior to the May 11, 2005 geophysical survey.
