Site Description

The Site is located at 63 Brunswick Avenue in the Town of Plainfield (the Town), Windham County, Connecticut.  Geographic coordinates are 41∘ 43' 01" north latitude and 71∘ 51' 39" west longitude.

The Site is a former textile mill abandoned in the late 1970s.  The property consists of an abandoned two-story building in a state of disrepair and one 20,000-gallon underground storage containing several hundred gallons of unknown liquid.  Insulation and other building materials are suspected to contain asbestos.

See POLREP #1 for details.

Current Activities

Since the last POLREP:

- In April, Public Archaeology Survey Team Inc. of Storrs, subcontractor to the Weston START contract completed historical and photographic  documentation at the Glen Falls Worsted Mill (also known as Brunswick Mill and Carvill Mill). The photographic and historical documentation was required by the Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) as a permanent archival record.

- On April 19, 2005, Shaw, MCE and Weston met on site to review and discuss the remaining tasks for the final site restoration activities.

Planned Removal Actions

- Coordinate with the contractors to prepare for  re-mobilization on May 16, 2005 to complete the removal action.

Next Steps

• Complete site restoration activities in May 2005.
