Current Activities

Meeting held between Barr Engineering and CMS with local emergency responders.  

Mobilization of site trailers for site command posts.

Initiation of fencing activities at East Park.

Construction of roadways, decon stations, and leachate staging areas at Seep 1 and Seep 2 CKD Release Areas.

Initiation of leachate collection using a tractor-mounted vacuum unit at the Seep 2 CKD Release Area.  

Initiation of shoreline survey monitoring and targetted Seep Pool monitoring.


Planned Removal Actions

Completion of fencing activities at East Park.

Continuation of leachate recovery activities using tractor-mounted vacuum unit at Seep 2 CKD Release Area.

Initiation of leachate recovery activities at Seep 1 CKD Release Area.

Initiation of fencing activities at Seep 1 and 2 CKD Release Areas.


Key Issues

Leachate recovery activities using vacuum techniques is largely ineffective due to the rapid recovery of CKD leachate onto the beach.

A revised methodology of leachate recovery will be required.
