Current Activities

During this reporting period, the following tasks were completed:  Grid numbers 9,20,21,30 and 31 were excavated.  As of the time of this report, restoration is completed on grid numbers 9, 20, and 21, and in progress on grid numbers 30 and 31.  Please refer to the Documents Section for an updated site grid map.

Also, during this reporting period approximately 2024 tons of contaminated soil were loaded and disposed of off-site.

On 6 August 2005, Sterling Systems completed the removal of the picnic tables, benches, walkways and the concrete pad, as requested by the Minneapolis Park Board. Only those that did not interfere with EPA's work were removed.


Planned Removal Actions

Continue clearing the river bank for the rip-rap placement.  Continue excavation of contaminated soils.  The next grids to be excavated will be number 5, 6 and 17.


Next Steps

The placement of rip-rap on the Mississippi River bank is schedule to begin on September 12.
This work will be perform from a barge on the River.  The company, Lametti and Sons, estimates it will take 2 weeks to complete this task.
