Current Activities

During this reporting period the following work was completed:  grid numbers 4,5, 15 and 16 were excavated, grid numbers 30 and 31 were restored, grid numbers 32 and 33 were excavated and restored, and approximately 176 tons of asbestos contaminated soils were disposed of site.  Please refer to the Documents Section for an up- to-date grid map.

Of the 227 perimeter monitoring air samples collected as of 9 September 2005, 1 was overloaded with dust or damaged, thus preventing the analysis of the sample cartridge.  Of the remaining samples that have been analyzed, 31 samples (14%) contained concentrations of asbestos above the project-specific air quality objective with a maximum concentration of 0.008 S/cc.  26 of these samples were collected between 13 June 2005 and 16 June 2005.  During this period the analytical laboratory was using a higher sensitivity and the analytical method detection limit used could not achieve our desired level.  Per our request, the laboratory adjusted its sensitivity to 0.001 S/cc as of 17 June 2005.  Since 17 June 2005, 5 samples were reported above the air quality objective of 0.001 S/cc with a maximum of 0.002 S/cc.  2 of these samples were reported in higher sensitivity resulting from lower volume intake.  3 of these samples were associated with near source sampling.  Laboratory asbestos concentrations in all remaining 195 samples collected and analyzed since 17 June 2005 reported concentrations at or below the air quality objective.

Of the 45 soil samples collected as of 9 September 2005 , 2 had detectable levels of tremolite and chrysotile asbestos <1%, and 0 samples were over the action level of 1%.

Planned Removal Actions

The office trailers will be moved to an already restored area to allow for the excavation of grid numbers 2,3,13 and 14.


Next Steps

Placement of riprap on the River bank, which is schedule to start on or around September 12.

Approximately 176 tons of asbestos contaminated soils were removed and disposed of site during this reporting period.
