Site Description

NRC # 772843 - Lilburn, GA - RP reported the release of approximately .5 cup of mercury onto the carpet and flooring at their residence.  Mercury originated from 1 of 2 vials of mercury in the pendulum of an antique clock that was being repaired.  One vial overturned, spilling mercury into the carpet and along the baseboards of one room and leaking down through the floor, into the basement.

Current Activities

FOSC Franco was dispatched on 9/17/05 with START.  An assessment found visible mercury and levels of Hg at 50,000-60,000 ppt in the air throughout the house.  ERRS was dispatched, as well as FOSC Adams to take over the cleanup for FOSC Franco so that he could resume Hurricane Katrina Response activities.

Planned Removal Actions

ERRS will be used to collect any remaining visible mercury and to ventilate the residence.
