Current Activities

12/7/02 – 12/8/02
No on-site work.

12/9/02 (3 START, 2 G.L. Palm)
START sampling team at site to perform initial confirmation sampling of Mill building and wood and metal debris removed from Mill during decontamination.  G.L. Palm workers manually removing DW not removable by Vac trucks.  G.L. Palm workers dumped additional DW removed from building into DW staging area pit.  Hauling of Mill Pond tailings discontinued until new tipping fee rate is negotiated with East Wenatchee landfill.

12/10/02 (3 START, 2 G.L. Palm)
START sampling team continuing initial confirmation sampling.  G.L. Palm workers manually removing DW from Mill building.  No Mill Pond tailings hauled to East Wenatchee landfill.  New snow accumulation.

12/11/02 (3 START, 2 G.L. Palm)
START sampling team continuing initial confirmation sampling.  G.L. Palm workers continue manually removing DW not removed by Vac trucks.  No Mill Pond tailings hauled to East Wenatchee landfill.  Additional snow accumulation.

12/12/02 (3 START)
START sampling team completed initial confirmation sampling of Mill building and wood and metal debris.  Samples shipped to SVL Analytical, Inc., the PRP-contracted laboratory, for analysis.  HSA submitted First Review Draft Demolition Work Plan for review.

12/16/02 (1 HSA, 2 G.L. Palm)
CW (assay rejects) excavated from area north of Assay Building and staged at Mill Pond for later hauling to East Wenatchee landfill.  Preparations made for loading trucks with DW to be hauled to Arlington on 12/17/02.

12/17/02 (1 START, 1 HSA, 1 G.L Palm, 2 Envirocon)
G.L. Palm loaded two trucks (Envirocon, subcontractor to ChemWaste) with DW from staging area.  Truck capacity insufficient to handle all DW staged for hauling.  Approximately two thirds of a truck load remain in staging area.  Trucks depart for Arlington for amendment and disposal of DW.  HSA contacted PRP for approval for a third truck.  PRP ordered that not further work be performed on site.

12/18/02 (1 HSA)
DW staging area secured and fenced.

12/19/02 – 12/20/02
No on-site work performed.  START secured laboratory subcontract for analysis of confirmation samples.

Planned Removal Actions

Continue with removal efforts in the Mill facility and Mill Pond.

Next Steps

Analysis of confirmation samples, and evaluation of results.
START to complete cultural resources survey.
Determine what remaining work will be performed by PRP.
Review PRP demolition work plan.

Key Issues

PRP resistance to perform several removal tasks in a timely manner (e.g. removal of remaining staged DW)
Deteriorating weather
