This site in Mission, TX is a former pesticide formulation and packaging facility, and was the subject of corrective action by USEPA in 1982. Deterioration of the containment cap has raised concerns over potential health impacts from exposure to chlorinated pesticides.
Contamination of surrounding properties was addressed by previous TCEQ actions.
Asphalt patching on deteriorated portions of the cap was completed Thursday 2/16/06.
The contract for fencing was awarded on Friday 2/17/06. The current schedule is to conduct HAZWOPER training for installers Monday - Tuesday (2/20-21/06), with fence installation beginning Wednesday (2/22/06), and completed on Friday (2/24/06).
ERRS contract firms will submit comprehensive work plans for the anticipated removal action by COB Tuesday (2/21/06). Initial submittals will be electronic, followed by hard copy.
Proposed removal actions are being developed. Cleanup standards will reflect the future commercial land use as confirmed by the current landowner and the City of Mission.
Complete fence installation
Review workplans
Develop appropriate proposed removal action
Complete the Action Memo
Site access will be restricted by fencing. This will prevent trespass and potential direct exposure to the public.
Patching and fencing will control cap deterioration until removal.
