Current Activities

During this reporting period the intrusive activities continued within grids H6, L4, I6 and F6.  These activities included magging and flagging of all metal items and the hand shovelling of these flagged materials.

On March 1 two 4lb incendiary bombs were detected in grid F6 and were transported to the magazine for temp storage.  Dig teams are finding agricultural related metal parts and pieces, munition debris (MD) items that are related to flares and tracer elements.

Through Feb 25, 2006 the following stats apply:
Total grids - 66 (200x200)
Grids cleared - 8
Grids Government QA'd - 8
Total Number of digs - 1259
Pounds of MEC found - 174
# of live items found - 4

On March 3, 2006 the USACE conducted a site removal action status meeting with EPA and MDE represented.  The FOSC and MDE rep requested a desire for USACE to facilitate the viewing of site activities by the USACE contractor.  Toward this desire the USACE will bring in a remote digital camera with wireless connection so that non UXO certified visitors can witness site activities.  The FOSC also requested more specificity (stats on what was found and where) on a daily basis.  The USACE subsequently modified its daily QAR's and will forward the contractor weekly reports.  The FOSC will continue to work with USACE to ensure meaningful reporting.

Planned Removal Actions

Grids will continue to be searched and dug.  All items to be either discarded, moved to explosive magazines or blown in place.  Most on site dets will occur on Thursdays (end of site work week).

Next Steps

Approval of ESS for Phase II activities.  This is the Site safety document requiring approval by Huntsville prior to excavation.  It is anticipated to be finalized and certified within 3 weeks.
