An estimated 2500 cubic yard soil and debris pile remains at an abandoned battery recycling facility in Marianna, FL. The soil and debris contain lead and arsenic contamination.
|
On Monday 13MAR06 ERRS contractor WRS prepared the Site for removal activity by covering property items located in the warehouse with polyethylene sheeting and moving some scrap materials to create a sufficient treatment area within the warehouse.
On Tuesday 14MAR06 WRS began the soil treatment process. The process is the stabilization of the lead contaminated soil by adding a 1:10 ratio of triple super phosphate and mixing thoroughly.
WRS initially conducted operations in Level"C" PPE. WRS conducted particulate air monitoring and dust suppression operations to ensure compliance with the Site Safety and Health Plan.
FDEP POC John Sykes visited the Site to assist with oversight.
|
Treatment operations should continue until all contaminated soil has been through the treatment process. After treatment, EPA intends to sample treated soil to ensure a successful operation. Then EPA will provide for transportation and disposal in a subtitle D landfill.
