POLLUTION REPORT

Work Mission Statement:

Safely and efficiently investigate and remove Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC); Materials Potentially Possessing an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) and explosively contaminated soil from the Elkton Farms Firehole Site.

During this reporting period the intrusive activities continued within grids B5,F6,I6 and L4.  These activities included magging and flagging of all metal items and the hand shovelling of these flagged materials.

MEC RECOVERED DURING WEEK AND DISPOSITION:  MEC items recovered this week include One (1) 4-lb incendiary bomb; Two (2) partial 4-lb incendiary bomb; One (1) M-50 Expelling Charge as well as a number of igniters, tracer elements from 40mm projectiles and bits and pieces of slap flares.  These items were transferred to the Safe Holding Area (SHA) or remain where found awaiting on site detonation/disposal.

FOSC is coordinating with the MDE,USACE and InFOPRO regarding the mobilization of the rather large "Rangemaster" sifter.  This machine, which is larger than a combine, can breeze thru surface sifting at approximately one acre/hour.  This will greatly increase site productivity.  However because of its size it will have to be mobilixed via alternate route creating access and private property site restoration/compensation issues.

An additional $1,000,000 was appropriated from EPA to the USACE for contractor removal activities.  This brings the total to 2,050,000 for removal activities and 200,000 for internal USACE costs
