On 5/8/2006 KYDEP notified EPA duty officer of a release of 40-50 barrels of crude oil due to valve failure on a tank. The valve failure is believed to be a result of vandalism. Oil reached Greasy Creek, where boom was applied and an underflow dam built, but sheen did escape the immediate area and moved toward Panther Creek. The responsible party has responded with a vac truck as well. KYDEP and EPA OSC Smith responded to the Site.
As of 5/09/06: 40-50 barrels were contained on-site and the RP's environmental contractor was working to remove the contained oil.
On 5/10/2006: Due to severe weather, the containment areas gave way and up to 40 barrels of crude oil was released into Greasey Creek and eventually made it to Panther Creek, which is a tributary to the Green River, which flows into the Ohio River.

EPA entered into a PRFA with KYDEP on the evening of 5/10/2006. Furthermore, OSC Brook Bass was dispatched to the Site to provide oversite.
A contractor for KYDEP has successfully deployed river boom, contained the oil, and has currently recovered over 600 gallons of crude oil.

Contained oil will be removed via vac trucks. Oil recovery along the creek will take place through manual recovery, i.e. pads, sorbents, etc.

|
Ensure that the release is contained, conduct product recovery, mitigate the hazards.
