Current Activities

January 15, 2003: (ERRS-7, START-2, EPA-1) ERRS segregates hazardous and non-hazardous substance wastestreams.  Remaining hazardous and non-hazardous substances (primarily oil, water gasoline mixtures) were placed in drum overpacks for offsite transportation.  Oily debris, used PPE and lead acid batteries were in square Maverick Shipping containers and pallets for offsite transportation and disposal.  A final sweep of the site was conducted and materials of concern were removed.  All identified materials of concern were prepared for shippment and transported from site for disposal.  START collected four confirmation soil samples from former drum pile locations. Removal activites are completed onsite. START demobilizes from the site.

January 16, 2003 (ERRS-7, EPA-1) ERRS and EPA demobilize from the site.

Planned Removal Actions

Removal activites are complete, no further removal activites planned.

Next Steps

Confirmation soil sample results will be reviewed and forwarded to Tribal representatives.

Key Issues

OSC interviewed by Tribal Reporter.
Cold temperatures had caused ice to form in drums preventing bulking with vacuum trucks, drums were overpacked for offsite transportation. This method  allowed removal action to be completed within schedule.
The tribe has agreed to fund the removal of non-hazardous materials (waste oils) as part of this removal action.  Funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs will be used via a purchase order with EPA's contractors to address transportation, disposal, and some labor.
