Current Activities

From April 19, 2006 through July 19, 2006, START monitored the RP activities associated with the pipeline release.  Throughout this period, the RP and its contractors have worked to optimize the Duel Phase Extraction System (DPES) that was installed in Laskey Road.

On three separate occasions from June 23-July 12, 2006 there were large rain events in the Toledo area, which led to significant flooding of Shantee Creek (along the south side of Laskey Road and directly adjacent to the properties on Crawford Street).  These rain events resulted in a total accumulation of approximately 13 inches of rain.  Due to this flooding in the area adjacent to the pipeline leak, several agencies (EPA, START, Ohio EPA and the City of Toledo) requested that the RP meet at the Site to discuss potential impacts and effectiveness of the DPES.

Following an inspection of the impacted area it was determined that no visible product was evident in the stream.  The DPES was put back into operation on Friday, July 21, 2006.

Oversight of this project will be continued by the Ohio EPA (Remedial Response Group) and the City of Toledo-Division of Environmental Services.

Planned Removal Actions

RP Operations:

Continue to contain and remove released product at the Laskey Road collection area.

Continue air monitoring activities near the pipeline release point.

Continue product and vapor recovery near the pipeline release point and subsurface beneath Laskey Road.

Continue periodic air monitoring at the dual phase extraction unit.

Oversight will be continued by the Ohio EPA (Remedial Response Group) and the City of Toledo-Environmental Services Division.
