Site Description

The KYDEP called to report a release of oil from an above ground crude oil tank.  The spill occurred due to overfilling.  An estimated 200 to 300 gallons were spilled to an unnamed tributary to the Little Sandy River. The state felt the RP's  attempt at the cleanup was insufficient and were willing to conduct the cleanup. The state coordinated cleanup actions with the FOSC. The state found more oil than expected, expanding the scope beyond what was initially telephone duty OSC who dispatched FOSC Russell to assess the situation and attempt to compel the RP to assume cleanup operations. Interception trenches were excavated down gradient and about 400 gallons of oil have been recovered to date.

Current Activities

As of the evening of 12 Nov 06, the FOSC is working with the PRP to assumed cleanup responsibility with state oversight. FOSC Russell is expected to demobilize today.
