|
A release of crude oil from an above ground storage tank occurred outside of Wooton, KY. The RP estimated that 100 barrels of crude was missing from the tank. The receiving water body is Wolf Creek. Journey Operating, the RP, utilized their own employees and hired Somerset Environmental to remediate the spill. Most of the oil appears to have entered into the stratification layers in the subsurface. KYDEP and FOSC Russell have responded.

The PRP and their contractor are working to recover the released crude oil. As of 1800 on 11/12/2006, nearly 15,000 gallons of water has been used to try and "flush" the crude oil out of the subsurface layer. However, a very minimal amount of product has been recovered. It appears that the product has escaped into the subsurface (possibly into a previous deep mine or other man-made borring).

The PRP along with their contractor will continue to try and flush the oil out. If the product cannot be flushed out, the removal actions will be abandoned. However, the PRP will maintain contractor support on site in case product does reappear. KYDEP will maintain oversight of these operations.
