This is an ongoing response to a chemical fire and explosion in Danvers Massachusetts. Two companies, CAI Inc. and Arnell Co were colocated in a building on Water Street. At approximately 0300hrs, a fire and explosion of unknown origin resulted in the destruction of the building and significant damage to many homes and businesses in the vicinity. There were no fatalities; several persons were hospitalized, but all have been released as of 11/25/06.

CORRECTIONS TO PREVIOUS INFORMATION
EPA did not issue a notice to proceed to Enpro Environmental Services. Enpro was unable to provide the requested equipment.
Also, the ERRS contractor was issued an emergency task order, not a notice to proceed.

ERRS Response Manger, personnel and equipment arrived at the scene to support the ongoing investigation. Additional supplies for runoff control were received and staged.
Air samples (mini-summa cans) were collected at the perimeters of the site to characterize site conditions.
Also, START deployed 5 AreaRae monitors in support of crime scene investigation in the hotzone.
Crime scene investigation continues by Massachusetts State Fire Marshall and ATP personnel.
OSC Nalipinski participated in a press conference.
Access to the hot zone is restricted until completion of the investigation.
11/28/06
The owners of the Liberty Marina were given access to the boatyard. They checked all the boats stored outside the buildings and ensured that they were stable on their jackstands. Marina personnel were not allowed to enter any buildings or structures on their property.
The ERRS contractor completed construction of the runoff control berms. USCG personnel assisted.
OSC Nalipinski participated in a meeting with Danvers town officials and MADEP regarding access issues and proposed demolition of damaged properties.
Chemical Safety Board personnel were fit-tested today in anticipation of making site entry on 11/29/06.

Mobilization of additional equipment and personnel will occur over the next few days in anticipation of the completion of the crime scene investigation.

Continue to coordinate planning activites with the MADEP, local officials, state fire marshalls and ATF.
