On 23 January 2007, the OSC approved the reduction of the full scale fluid recovery events to once a month if free product is detected (>0.01 ft) in any of the recovery sumps located on the hill slope. This reduction in the frequency of the fluid recovery events will enhance overall efficiency in the removal of free product remaining in the ground surface and its mobility under static conditions. Fogle’s intends to conduct the full scale fluid recovery event during the first week of the month at any sump in the seep area that had a detectable thickness of free product during the prior month’s monitoring. Large rain events will receive scrutiny for additional full scale extraction.
During this reporting period the Responsible Party's contractor, ERM Inc., continued weekly oil extraction activities. The total liquids extracted thru 1/31/07 includes 41,973 gals of contaminated water and 3,996 gals of fuel oil. Weekly extraction events will continue.
ERM and Fogle's personnel will continue to inspect and replace sorbents in the creek as part of the required work under this AOC.
Work Initiated Under the Final Abatement Plan:
Startup of the bioventing system at the Facility occurred on 30 January, 2007. As outlined in the Abatement Plan, measurements of soil gas concentrations of CO2, O2 and total hydrocarbons were collected from monitoring points prior to startup and daily thereafter for the remainder of the week. Monitoring of soil gas will continue as outlined in the Abatement Plan.
