Site Description

Please refer to previous POLREPs for site description and previous actions taken.

Current Activities

The following activities took place during the reporting period:

Operation of the wastewater treatment system (WWT) was restarted on February 21, 2007.  Since restart, approximately 100,000 gallons of contaminated water have been treated.  To date, approximately 920,000 gallons have been treated by the WWT system.  Treated water is being used for decontamination operations and/or being land applied.

Containers of hazardous waste that remain on site are staged to prevent spills and are within containment areas.

Planned Removal Actions

The following activities are planned during the next reporting period:

The WWT system will continue to be operated.  The treated water will be sampled and go through a lab analysis every 100,000 gallons before being land applied.  The most recent laboratory samples were collected on March 13.

Pumping of the liquid waste within the containment pit inside the incinerator building into frac tanks is planned.  Also, transportation and disposal of staged hazardous waste will be restarted by the potentially responsible party (PRP) group's contractors.  The PRP group's contractors are tentatively scheduled to take control of site activities on or around March 19.

Next Steps

The following have been identified as next steps in the stabilization phase of this removal action:

Collected wastewater will continue to be treated.  The PRP group's contractors are tentatively scheduled to take control of site activities on or around March 19.  At this time, wastewater treatment will continue under the PRP's contractor control.

Key Issues

Weather conditions will continue to be monitored.  Temperatures below freezing may hamper operation of the WWT and thunderstorms will continue to hamper operation of the WWT system.

The PRP group's contractors are tentatively scheduled to take control of site activities on or around March 19.  The PRP's over-sight contractor is EnSafe and the project contractor is Veolia.
