Site Description

Please review the Profile for a detailed Site Description.

Current Activities

All liquid and solid waste streams have been removed from the site.  There were 3,000 gallons of F listed liquid waste collected, removed from the site, and transported to a disposal facility in the state of Kansas. Approximately 300 gallons of other liquids were lab-packed and over-packed for disposal at a facility in the state of Missouri.  All drums and containers were crushed and disposed as solid waste at a certified landfill in the state of Kansas.

Planned Removal Actions

We are currently awaiting the manifests of disposal for all waste streams and confirmation of disposal of solid waste for inclusion in the final reports for this site.  All final cost information, from both START and ERRS, is pending and current amounts will be added in the final polrep.  All waste streams have been removed from the site and on-site removal activities have been completed.

Next Steps

Prepare the final reports and do a site walk through with Miami County and the state of Kansas.  Address any other issues that may arise from the walk through with the county.

Key Issues

The fiberglass distributors that were contacted previously informed the EPA on-scene coordinator that due to the age of the products on-site they would not be usable in their production facilities.

The issue regarding the state of Missouri's fee's for transportation, generation and disposal of hazardous waste by the EPA has been addressed.  The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) has agreed to waive the $100 fee for assigning a generator ID No.

Disposition of Wastes

Three thousand gallons of F listed waste was sent to Fredonia, KS, to the La Farge Concrete plant to be burned as fuel in the Concrete plant.  Approximately 300 gallons of liquid waste were lab packed, overpacked, and sent to PSC in Kansas City, Missouri for disposal.  Crushed drums, other containers, and solid waste was sent to Deffenbaugh Disposal facility (Johnson County Landfill).
