Work Mission Statement:

Safely and efficiently investigate and remove Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC); Materials Potentially Possessing an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH), Munitions Debris (MD) and explosively contaminated soil(TNT) from the Elkton Farms Firehole Site, as defined in EPA's geophysical study.

Current Activities

Removal Action Activities continue during the week of 4/30/07 through 5/4/07. Local weather has not been a factor during the week's activities. ERRS and their sub UXO contractor, USA Environmental Inc, continued Grid clearance activities in Grids K4c, C4b and C4c. USA continues to utilize a two team approach to Phase 1 activities as per Work Plan.

A QC inspection was done on 5/1/07 to assess Grid K4c. ERRS sub contractor returned to these Grids to assess and address the findings of the QC inspection. A re-sweep of Grid K4c was completed by Team #2 on 5/2/07. On 5/3/07, the QC inspection was completed on Grid K4c.  EPA performed a 50% QA inspection on Grid K4c to ensure that the Grid has been cleared as per the FOSCs discretion.  The grid was deemed ‘passed’ on 5/3/07.  On 5/3/07, Grid K4d sweeping activities were initiated.

Team #1 completed a resweep of C4b on 5/3/07.  A QC inspection was completed on 5/3/07.   EPA performed a 50% QA inspection on Grid C4b on 5/4/07.  The grid was deemed ‘passed’ on 5/3/07 as per the FOSCs discretion.  On 5/3/07, Grid C4c sweeping activities were initiated.

Daily morning Safety Meetings and Tailgate Meetings continue with site personnel as per the WP. Daily activities include clearing of metal anomalies within 1.5ft bgs.

Both teams continued mag and dig  activities in Grids C4c and K4d, as per the FOSCs direction. EPA conducted an operations meeting in the late afternoon of 5/3/07 with GES, USA, RMC and TTNUS to discuss productivity, QA/QC and health and safety.

The following items have been recovered from 4-30-07 through 5-4-07:

MEC Items = 54
No. of Digs = 3,213
MD in lbs. = 184
