Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to repackage magnesium material from super sacks into drums. A total of 48 full-size super sacks were repackaged into drums. START utilized a pDR (personal DataRam) unit to conduct air monitoring for particulates in the repackaging area. The average reading for the workday was 0.040 mg/m3. OSHA’s PEL for total particulates is 15 mg/m3.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect and stage truckloads of drums which are awaiting disposal. The drums are staged in the southeast end of the pavement adjacent to Building 9.
ERRS contractor, Guardian Environmental Services, continued to segregate lab samples and chemicals located in the upstairs laboratory storage area, upstairs laboratory, and downstairs laboratory in Building 7. Material was being segregated by DOT hazard classifications. Once all material is segregated, it will be inventoried for disposal purposes.
PADEP Wozniak arrived onsite to assist in management of site activities.
START attended daily safety meetings, assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site. START collected a sample from the “acid tank” located in Building 7. The sample was turned over to ERRS to use for disposal profiling.

Meridian’s subcontractor, URS, continued to repackage magnesium material from super sacks into drums. URS transported 38 full-size, 8 three-quarter-size, 5 half-size, 18 one-quarter size super sacks from Building 2 to Building 7 where the super sacks will be repackaged into drums. URS notified START that approximately 100 super sacks remain in Building 2. One truckload of empty drums was delivered onsite to URS.
Intermet’s contractor, NIAPRO, continued to inspect and stage truckloads of drums which are awaiting disposal. The drums are staged in the southeast end of the pavement adjacent to Building 9. NIAPRO completed the inspection and staging of drums at the south end of the Site, where a total of 8 truckloads of drums are staged and await disposal. NIAPRO relocated to the central area of the Site, between Building 7 and Building 2. The drums located in this area are more weathered (drums rusted, lids rusted, pallets broken, etc.). NIAPRO informed START that while transporting a pallet of drums in this area, a small amount of white milky liquid thought to be cutting oil, spilled from a drum onto the asphalt. The lid and bung had rusted through which allowed material to spill on the ground. NIAPRO set the pallet of drums down and placed an absorbent material on the spilled area. Crew will leave the pallet in place and will wait for the arrival of their supervisor in determining how to handle the compromised drum.
ERRS contractor, Guardian Environmental Services, completed the segregation and inventory of lab samples and chemicals located in the upstairs laboratory storage area, upstairs laboratory, and downstairs laboratory in Building 7. The inventory will be calculated and a copy will be provided to EPA.
PADEP Hoffman and Morettini arrived onsite to assist in management of site activities.
START attended daily safety meetings, assisted as needed, conducted written and photographic documentation, and monitored activities conducted on site. START completed a site walkthrough with EPA and PADEP officials to show them how and where the radiation survey was completed.
