On November 30, 2006, EPA Region 3 approved Request for Ceiling Increase, Change in Scope, and an Exemption from the 12-month Statutory Limit for a Removal Action at the Crozet Township Arsenic Site (Crozet Arsenic Site).
On December 13, 2006, EPA issued a task order to ERRS contractor Kemron Environmental Services to perform removal activities at the Site. The budget is set at $100,000.
During the week of Jan 11, 2007, EPA, EPA distributed fact sheets to all residents in the Orchard Acres development. The fact sheet included a request for access to sample properties for arsenic contamination.
START collected samples from three homes (ID # 38, 40, 44) to further delineate horizontal and vertical contamination.
On Jan 16, 2007, EPA placed an order for 20,000 Edenfern brand ferns. The ferns will be used for the phytoremediation areas of the project.
On February 11-13, 2007, START contractor Tetra Tech EMI collected samples from 50 properties (ID’s: 46, 103, 109, 112, 113, 115, 121, 123, 125, 144, 151, 152, 153, 154, 157, 158, 160, 162, 170, 171, 173, 175, 176, 177, 178, 181, 182, 186, 196, 197, 199, 200, 203, 204, 207, 210, 214, 216, 221, 222, 225, 227, 236, 233, 237, 239, 240, 241, 243, 248). The samples were collected as five point composite samples from in the front and back yards.
On March 20, 2007, START collected samples from five (5) homes (ID’s: 176, 177, 186, 196, 203). These samples were grab samples from discrete locations at homes who had composite samples above 48 mg/kg during the February sampling event. Both surface and subsurface samples were collected at these locations to delineate, if possible, the extent of contamination above 58 mg/kg.
