The Site is a former orchard area that has had residential development. Prior to an EPA ban in 1972, a variety of pesticides including lead-arsenates and DDT compounds were applied.
EPA conducted a removal action at one property at the Crozet Arsenic Site in Crozet, Virginia. Historical sampling indicated that additional properties may need removal work.
|
On Monday April 30th, 2007 EPA and START mobilized to Site.
On Tuesday, May 1st, 2007 ERRS mobilized to the Site. EPA, ERRS, and START conducted a Site walk to mark all of the locations to be addressed at the Highlander Road Property.
Throughout the week, START marked out and calculated volumes of soil and areas to be addressed based on the markouts.
EPA met with a concerned resident regarding site activities. The resident was concerned about dust emissions coming from removal activities. EPA assured the resident that a combination of engineering controls and monitoring will prevent any dust emissions from migrating to her property.
On Thursday May 3rd, 2007 EPA, ERRS and START met Edenspace onsite. Edenspace is the supplier of the ferns for the phytoremediation project. All parties met to discuss the requirements for the fern planting and irrigation system.
|
EPA will begin preparation for phtyoremediation. This includes tillling, fertilizing and planting the ferns. It also involves installing a drip irrigation system.
